Quantifying Adaptability
نویسنده
چکیده
–Until adaptability can be calculated and measured, it is difficult to understand or promote. This paper defines adaptability and offers a way to measure it based on communications theory. Adaptability is a complex process which requires a number of supporting processes and definitions. The concept of state-pairs is developed and used to describe communicating entities, interfaces, comparison, measured information, communications, flexibility and, finally, adaptability. Interfaces are delineated by their percent of adaptability; different means are identified to add the benefits of adaptability to existing and future systems. Keywords-adaptability; interface; communications structure; measured information; etiquette

Towards Quantifying the Adaptability of Executable BPMN Processes
Process languages such as the Business Process Model and Notation 2.0 or the Web Services Business Process Execution Language promise the portability of executable artifacts among different runtime environments, given these artifacts conform to the respective specification. However, due to the natural imperfectness and differing priorities of runtime environments, actual portability of process ...
متن کاملA Tool for Characterizing and Quantifying Adaptability and Adaptivity
The need for adaptation can be largely justified today by the increasing use of a large variety of interactive services by the whole population using various computer devices in different technical and social environments. Adaptation can apply to many aspects of software: presentation, data, services or assistance according to many factors like user characteristics, interaction platforms, envir...
متن کاملAssessment of Service Protocols Adaptability
Protocol adaptation between services is a key functionality for ensuring successful interactions. Previous work has mainly interested in either compatibility analysis which targets at the direct service interaction, or constructing adapters for service protocols. In this paper, we are rather interested in characterizing whether two service protocols are adaptable without constructing an adapter...
متن کاملSTSC CrossTalk - The 10 Most Powerful Principles for Quality in Software and Software Organizations - Nov 2002
The software industry knows it has a problem: The industry's maturity level with respect to "numbers" is known to be poor. While solutions abound, knowing which solutions work is the big question. What are the most fundamental underlying principles in successful projects? What can be done right now? The first step is to recognize that all your quality requirements can and should be specified nu...
متن کاملGenetic diversity among induced mutants of grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.)
Introduction Knowledge about genetic diversity is a prerequisite of any breeding programme. Inclusion of diverse parents in hybridisation programmes serves the purpose of combining desirable genes in new recombinations. Mahalanobi’s D statistic (7) is a powerful tool in quantifying the degree of divergence at genotypic level. Several workers have used this method to quantify the degree of diver...
